Graham's Grains in the Water

The A walkers met today on the approach road the Birchen Clough car park, A57 Snake Pass SS33 0BJ, grid reference SK 109 914 at 10 am. The Snake Pass was officially closed, but we all ignored the signs. The distance and ascent of the walk were 11.1 miles and 2,288 feet, according to ViewRanger on an iPhone 4S. There were 24 people on the walk. Here is the Route:

(The original intention was to return through the wood, rather than down the Snake Pass.)

It was cold but with very little wind. There was light snow cover, with two light snow showers in the afternoon, and it was slippery in places.

Andrew broke his femur slipping on a wet rock, and we had to call Mountain Rescue. Ernie stayed behind, while the rest us yomped across the moor to the Snake Pass. The Mountain Rescue Team reached Andrew on foot, and he was flown out by helicopter. Let us all hope he makes a rapid and complete recovery.
